KNAUF DRYWALL ‘MENU’ ON WALL AT FLAGSHIP STEIN RESTAURANT
Padstow Riverside landmark The Seafood Restaurant has emerged from a £2.5million refit with more seats, a centrepiece seafood bar – and Knauf Drywall plasterboard on its walls and suspended ceilings. As part of the team for the one-month refit of Rick and Jill Stein’s flagship restaurant in the Cornish fishing village, dry lining specialists Abbey Systems used a ‘menu’ of Knauf Drywall systems to achieve superior acoustic, fire and thermal performance and high quality surfaces for final decoration.
Main contractor, Midas Interiors and its specialist subcontractors worked round the clock during January to complete the refit which also included extensions to the restaurant, kitchen, and accommodation above. Keith Hosen, Midas Project Director, says: “For a project of this scale, dry lining is essential – its speed of installation means tight deadlines can be met. It also provides an excellent surface.”
St Austell based Abbey Systems used 15mm Knauf Wallboard and Knauf Soundshield on dot and dab to line some of the walls. Abbey Managing Director Shaun Talling says: “For one hour rated partitions between the restaurant and kitchen we fitted 15mm Knauf Fireshield on either side of 50mm or 70mm Knauf ‘C’ Studs. We also used 32mm Knauf Thermal Laminate to line blockwork walls and 12.5mm Knauf Wallboard in the Knauf MF Ceiling System.” All joints were taped and filled. Abbey Systems sourced the Knauf Drywall products through Encon’s Plymouth branch.
The Seafood Restaurant opened in 1975. Rick Stein says: “After more than 30 years we decided it was time for some improvements. We think the new restaurant is going to be lots of fun. We’ve put all our paintings back on the walls and it all looks really friendly and bright.” Rick has a passion for seafood and says “nothing is more exhilarating than fresh fish simply cooked”. The daily supply of fresh fish from local fishermen is central to the success of The Seafood Restaurant.
Abbey Systems is one of the leading plastering and dry lining specialists in the South West, and has previously worked with the Midas group. Shaun Talling says: “We have been using Knauf Drywall systems for many years. Their quality and service are excellent, and they readily provide expert technical support if we encounter any issues with detailing.”
Knauf Drywall manufactures a full range of plasters, plasterboards, insulating laminates, drywall accessories, metal sections and steel building systems, for domestic and commercial applications.
