The first of these two day visits took place in December 2010 and received a unanimously positive response from the 12 architects who attended. Following this inaugural success, there are monthly trips planned between now and the end of 2011. The programme covers both the enamelling and steel manufacturing processes, from raw materials through each stage of production to completion and shipping to customers. Visitors also learn about material performance and recycling possibilities and are afforded ample opportunity to examine an array of finished products at the head office training facility – the KKC (Kaldewei Competence Centre) which was designed by architects Bolles + Wilson. Guests are hosted for a traditional German dinner at the end of the first day and a tour of the historic town of Münster the following morning with its architecturally diverse collection of buildings.
Closer to home, Kaldewei also offers a 40 minute CPD seminar covering the material properties of steel enamel, production processes, anti-slip and easy clean surface finishes and floor level showering made easy. This can be conducted either at the Kaldewei UK premises in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire or on-site at the architect’s practice and carries one point towards the annual CPD target.
