HEPWORTH RAISES MORE THAN £1,000 FOR MACMILLAN

Hepworth Building Products’ employees got into the spirit of ‘all things green’ recently by raising more than one thousand pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Employees at the Company’s Hazlehead (near Penistone) and Doncaster sites were asked to wear something green and make a donation. Some even dyed their hair green to raise money throughout the day.

Employees also donated prizes for raffles at both sites, ranging from an MP3 player, to toiletries, Easter eggs and even a tin of brussel sprouts! Cakes with green icing were bought or baked and then sold, adding to the fundraising tally.

Sarah Ogden, Hepworth “Champion” for Macmillan at Hazlehead, commented: “The day was such great fun – people bought Macmillan T-shirts and pin badges, and we all ate enough cakes to last us a week! It’s great that we’ve been able to do our bit for such a worthwhile cause and that people have enjoyed themselves in the process.”

Doncaster’s “Champion” Tony Gorman added: “A number of people that work at Hepworth have friends and family or know of people who have been affected by cancer, so we were more than willing to pull out all the stops to raise money. Everyone’s support has been fantastic – people have been so enthusiastic and really got into the spirit of fundraising.”

Macmillan Cancer Support aims to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and campaign for better cancer care. South Yorkshire in particular has a higher than average incidence of cancer and all the money raised is put back into the local area to help support patients and their families.

Hepworth is undertaking a programme of fundraising events throughout the year as part of a commitment to Macmillan as the Company’s nominated charity for 2008.

Macmillan is always happy to hear from people who want to fundraise. To get involved please contact Sarah Teale, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan, on 01246 810301 for more information.
