Franklin’s Lodge, a most distinctive building in Boston, Lincolnshire, has just had a facelift, courtesy of building restoration and stonemasonry
experts, Rattee and Kett Ltd
. Now a special care facility, which promotes independent living, the attractive red-brick building is home to 19 long and short term residents, who require specialist daily assistance.
Steve Ralph, Rattee and Kett
Director, comments, “The greatest challenge faced by any contractor working on a healthcare facility, is to carry out the job effectively, without inconveniencing or affecting the residents and staff. This was particularly crucial at Franklin’s Lodge, which is home to several permanent residents, so we had to liaise closely with management, to minimise any unavoidable disruption to their home.”
Following the erection of a full access scaffold and temporary roof, Rattee and Kett
began the £250,000 contract with the conservation and repair of the building’s unstable stone pediment. They then reformed the parapet gutters, to comply with modern standards. The old roof of the building was overhauled, repaired and entirely re-tiled, using a combination of salvaged tiles from the original roof, and reclaimed Welsh Slate.
All of the building’s timber sash window frames
have been carefully removed, repaired and conserved. Additionally, Rattee and Kett
have carried out brickwork repairs and re-pointing to the building’s façade, as well as the full redecoration of all the external joinery.
Rattee and Kett
have increasing involvement in the ever expanding healthcare sector, with two more restoration projects at health facilities just completed.
