Hanson Formpave Flies High With Aquaflow Permeable Paving At New Hayfield Business Park
Coleford, Gloucestershire - 14th May 2008 - Hanson Formpave, manufacturers of specialist concrete paving products, has recently installed its Aquaflow™ permeable paving at the new Hayfield Business Park based at Robin Hood Airport in Finningley, Doncaster. An area in excess of 2,000 square meters has been installed throughout the site, providing car parking and minor roads to the industrial park.
A SUDS system was an essential site requirement in order for the project to comply and pass planning regulations. Project engineer Andy Walker, from Arcadis Terence E Dudley & Associates, had no hesitation in specifying Hanson Formpave’s Aquaflow permeable paving and SUDS system. “The ground conditions were ideal for this solution and the overall reduction in drainage costs, due to the omission of pipework, man holes and drainage design, was extremely appealing as well as the huge sustainability and ‘green’ benefits it allowed us to offer our client.”
“Since installing Aquaflow, I have been very impressed with the performance of the system. Even during the recent heavy flooding, we didn’t see any standing water on site which is exceptional performance,” Walker added.
Peter Johns, national specification manager at Hanson Formpave commented, “The specification and implementation of the Aquaflow permeable paving SUDS system continues to grow at a rapid pace, and as sustainable drainage moves towards becoming a mandatory requirement for planning considerations this is set to further increase. At Hayfield, the client demanded a green sustainable approach and the engineers also benefited from a reduced drainage design scheme, so Aquaflow met everyone’s requirements.”
The Hanson Formpave system allows rain to infiltrate through a permeable concrete block paved surface into a unique stone sub-base where it is cleaned, by filtration and microbial action, before being released in a controlled manner into sewers or water courses, or infiltrated directly into the sub-grade. Aquaflow paving blocks were used in conjunction with the infiltration system at the site that provide drainage through vertical channels and allow water through the surface at a rate of approximately 9000mm per hour (9000 litres per m2 per hour).
Hanson Formpave manufactures the market leading Aquaflow™ Permeable Paving and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), providing an affordable solution to the challenges of storm water disposal and treatment, water conservation, recycling and reuse. The company’s patented Aquaflow paving system delivers immediate environmental benefits and financial savings, when compared to traditional drainage. The system can also be used to harvest and reuse all water that falls on hard surfaces such as roofs and car parks, representing additional environmental benefits and cost savings.
