Greener Roofs for Midlothian Schools

8 new schools in a £70 million PPP funded education project in Midlothian have utilised green roofs from Flag-Soprema. In keeping with the requirement to use sustainable building principles and technologies, architects SQM specified a total of 10,700m2 of Flag-Soprema’s Optigreen Pitched Roof. The ‘extensive’ system was chosen to work within a storm water containment scheme, in addition to providing improved acoustics and thermal insulation. The overall build-up included standing seam top sheet, insulation, vapour control layer, steel liner sheet and drainage mat with filter fleece, in addition to pre-cultivated mats of sedums, grasses and low growing herbs.
