Green Energy Firm Issues Warning On UK Climate Change Targets
The UK Government needs to ramp up its support for the green energy sector during the recession or risk seeing its climate change targets derailed, the UK boss of Stiebel Eltron, one of the world’s biggest renewable product manufacturers, warned today.
Stiebel Eltron’s Wirral based UK managing director Mark McManus said urgent measures are now required if the UK is to hit targets of 20pc of UK energy coming from renewable sources by 2020.
“Germany and France are far more advanced than the UK in the use of renewable energy products, " he said. "A big reason for this is the incentive packages they have offered to businesses and domestic households. Now with the recession biting it is vital we learn from these measures in Europe and deploy them in the UK. A fundamental message we need to communicate is that investing in green energy products saves cash. Our heating products can pay for themselves within five years."
Mr McManus said the key role of green heating products needs to be better grasped in the UK.
“Heating is responsible for almost half of UK energy use and carbon emissions,” he said. “Therefore renewable energy heating products are right at frontline of the green energy revolution. The UK Government needs to invest more support in the sector."
