Gym4all is a brand new fitness company, which has so far opened three city centre sites across the UK, with two more due to open in spring. It has cut out the frills, as well as the costs, commitments and contracts associated with many other gyms to offer its customers the basics: top of the range fitness equipment in stimulating environments, at a price that is affordable for all.
Nottingham-based contract flooring and furnishing company, Roger Lilley Flooring, was commissioned to install the floors in Gym4all’s Nottingham and Derby fitness centres. For both sites, a vinyl safety floorcovering was specified for the changing rooms, whilst luxury vinyl planks were used for the reception, corridors and gym areas.
To optimise the aesthetic appearance and longevity of the floorcoverings, Stopgap Green Bag 128 smoothing underlayment was applied over the subfloors. Incorporating excellent flow and self-smoothing properties, Stopgap Green Bag 128 enabled the large areas to be covered quickly. This, together with the product’s fast-setting properties, helped the contractor to deliver fast track results.
Moreover, as Stopgap Green Bag offers excellent impact resistance, it will be able to retain its performance under repeated floor traffic as well as the heavy loading imparted by the gyms’ fitness equipment.
Roger Lilley, Managing Director of Roger Lilley Flooring, comments: “High impact resistance and wearability was vital here. The floorcoverings specified are designed to last, and so we needed a product suitable for heavy-duty areas that would retain its strength throughout the lifetime of both installations. Having used Stopgap products for many years, we were confident that they would perform for Gym4all.”
In addition, Stopgap Green Bag is also low odour and protein-free. This means that it will not promote or sustain bacterial growth, and thereby facilitate easy cleaning and maintenance in the long-term.
After sufficient time had been allowed for the smoothing underlayment to dry, F. Ball’s Styccobond F46 acrylic adhesive was used to secure the vinyl floorcoverings to the subfloor. A solvent free, pressure sensitive adhesive with a high-bond strength, F46 minimises the effect of trowel serrations shadowing through the vinyl floorcovering for an aesthetically pleasing finish.
To ensure the long-term performance and compatibility of an adhesive with a specified floorcovering, contractors and specifiers should seek advice from manufacturers. F. Ball annually updates its Recommended Adhesive Guide (RAG), following ongoing meticulous testing of its adhesives with every type of floorcovering listed in the guide. The current RAG features over 5,500 adhesive recommendations for floorcoverings from over 200 leading international manufacturers.
