Eurocell helps Nationwide provide better sight lines
Nationwide Windows, a Eurocell fabricator based in Rugby, recently won a major contract with Durkan Limited to supply windows to the East Dulwich Estate, a major Decent Homes regeneration programme in the London Borough of Southwark.
The windows, fabricated and installed by Nationwide, are part of major repairs and improvements to 750 dwellings contained in 22 four-storey block of flats. The client on this project is the London Borough of Southwark and the additional works, are being carried out by the Main Contractor Durkan. This includes the replacement of kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, roofing repairs/replacement, brickwork cleaning and re-pointing.
Nationwide Windows has been a Eurocell fabricator for nearly ten years and in that time has built up a strong reputation for quality and service. The company has developed a dedicated business around supplying building contractors, local authorities and housing associations, which means it has highly developed systems that can cope with the exacting demands of this market.
Eurocell is the UK’s leading manufacturer of PVC-u window, door and roofline systems and has supplied many Decent Homes programmes and other local authority and housing association projects throughout the UK. Backed up by 88 Eurocell depots throughout the UK, the company has become an integral part of helping fabricators and contractors deliver efficient and effective housing solutions to the public sector.
Durkan, the main contractor on this project, has been committed to supplying the public sector for over 40 years. Nationwide Windows has supplied to Durkan on other projects and presented them with the Eurocell Eurologik profile for their tender on the East Dulwich Estate project. Following a successful bid Durkan commissioned Nationwide to fabricate and install the windows on all 750 properties. Two blocks of flats have been completed so far with the whole site planned for completion in summer 2010.
Graham Wiseman, Sales Manager at Nationwide Windows, explains: “Durkan is one of the leading contractors in the public sector so it was important that we offered them a window system that maintained its reputation for performance and value. The Eurocell Eurologik system was the obvious choice because of its excellent quality, thermal performance and the fact it could be fitted as a direct replacement for the existing timber windows.”
The flats at East Dulwich Estate were predominantly fitted with timber sliding sash windows that were showing signs of serious deterioration. The architect was particularly concerned that the replacement windows should not detract from the original design style of the early 20th Century buildings.
After lengthy resident consultation, a successful planning application and subsequent completion of a pilot installation a template was agreed which could be duplicated across the estate causing minimum disruption to the resident householders and their existing internal decorations.
Graham Wiseman continues: “Supplying to the public sector requires a huge amount of planning and coordination because many of the window installations, including the ones on the East Dulwich Estate, have to be carried out with the residents still living in their homes. Years of experience in this sector, along with the skills of our highly qualified fitters allowed us to manage these requirements, enabling Durkan to concentrate on delivering all the other aspects of this large-scale project.”
The Eurocell Eurologik system was launched several years ago and has now established itself as one of the most popular profiles with fabricators, architects and clients. Available as casement, tilt and turn windows, along with entrance doors and French doors it offers public sector specifiers a single solution for all their new build and refurbishment projects.
Barry Stone, Commercial Manager at Eurocell Profiles, explains: “Eurocell is becoming a major supplier to many public sector housing projects and we are delighted that Nationwide has won this major contract with Durkan.”
