Eden Project - Eden Foundation Building

Scandinavian Window Systems products have been used for all the external glazing in a new, high-profile Foundation and Research building for Eden Project Ltd in Cornwall, designed by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners and constructed by McAlpine Joint Venture.

SWS were chosen for their ability to meet stringent environmental and insulation requirements whilst providing bespoke products to satisfy the clients' needs, as well as fulfilling the Architectšs natural ventilation requirements.

All timber used is from FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) approved sources and the St. Gobain latest low-emissivity glass units were Argon-filled with special low-conductivity spacer bars to obtain maximum insulation values. These contributed to the Building's high environmental criteria, which enabled an excellent BREEAM rating to be awarded by BRE.

In conjunction with Nicholas Grimshaw Architects, SWS developed a special sliding door system incorporating an independently opening window to allow high-level ventilation with the door closed. The products were then designed and built in Norway by Gjøvik Trevare and shipped to site on shedule in July.
