The phased refurbishment of a sports and leisure complex in Northern Ireland has featured extensive use of Focus, S-Line, Wing and other stylish ceiling systems from Ecophon’s wide range. The work at the Antrim Forum has been carried out on behalf of Antrim Borough Council by main contractor, McCombe Brothers (Antrim) Ltd with Buchanan Ceilings being the specialist installer of all the Ecophon products.

The design consultant responsible for specifying Ecophon products as a key element to the acclaimed new interiors was WDR & RT Taggart, the architectural consultancy that first created the complex. This practice had successfully employed Ecophon products on other leisure centres in the past, such as at Coleraine, and they were considered the obvious choice for the refurbishment of Antrim Forum, constructed back in 1970.

Although the original tiles were kept in the corridor areas, all the individual facilities - the dramatic spaces - have been fitted with Ecophon ceilings. Wing has been used in the dance studio, then the Quadro concave and S-line in the children’s soft play room. Both Focus S-Line and Ecophon’s Quadro Concave products appear in the refurbished fitness suite.

While such attributes as acoustic performance, low maintenance, durability and aesthetic flexibility, Ecophon’s products were influential on the specification process.

The Ecophon range is in harmony with the strong emphasis placed on environmental issues across Northern Ireland. Everyone is delighted with the way the project has turned out.
