The fitting out of a much needed new specialist medical centre in the North-East has featured the use of different products from the Ecophon range, specified to offer visual interest as well as reliable physical performance.

Focus E24 ceiling tiles together with Ecophon Light Coffers were installed by Ecophon approved contractor, Decke (Newcastle) Limited at the Diabetes Resource Centre at the North Tyneside General Hospital in North Shields.

The project has been overseen by the Newcastle-upon-Tyne based practice of Dunwoodie Architects and the Estates Department of the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust.

Mike Metcalfe, Head of Capital Design and Planning for the Trust comments: “This was a very complex project involving the refurbishment and extension of an existing building, while the department and the patients had to carry on using all of the facilities.

“The selection of the Ecophon systems was based not only on the very attractive appearance of the Light Coffers and other products, but also on an assessment of their ability to provide the acoustic performance and durability we required.”

George Beeby, Managing Director of Decke Limited reflects: “The Focus and the Light Coffers are an interesting system to install and are aesthetically pleasing. We are regular users of the Ecophon systems and we receive good technical assistance from the company.”

The two Light Coffers featured within the Diabetes Resource Centre were produced specifically for the project offering a distinctive change in height and quality of reflected light.
