Developers are over the moon with lunar rise

An exclusive high-rise development on Plymouth’s waterfront is benefiting from a high performance Facade solution from Alumasc Exterior Building Products Ltd.

Lunar Rise is one of Barratt Homes’ recently completed contemporary styled apartments situated in Bretonside overlooking Sutton Harbour Marina. It represents part of the regeneration of a number of derelict and under-used Brownfield sites on a significant approach to Plymouth's city centre.

The coastal location and building orientation presented Form Design Group Architects with a number of design challenges, including its high wind and elemental exposure and the requirement for NHBC approval. Swisrail External Wall Insulation (EWI) and Silkolitt Silicone Render from Alumasc exceeded regulatory insulation values whilst also providing unsurpassed weather resistance, creating a high performance, long-life building envelope.

NHBC approved Swisrail, is based on Swistherm, the principal Alumasc Insulated Render System for new-build applications. It incorporates a rail system that isolates the cladding from the majority of the frame, creating an additional barrier against external water ingress and allowing internal moisture control in the event of breach. Swisrail provides a seamless insulated façade that is specifically tailored to the needs of lightweight frame construction.

4000 sq m of Swisrail was installed at Lunar Rise, with the 110mm expanded polystyrene insulation achieving a U Value of 0.29W/m², exceeding the requirements of Building Regulations Part L.

The development was finished using 1.5mm White Silkolitt Silicone Render, a lightweight render that demonstrates outstanding water repellent qualities and high water-vapour permeability. It provides an attractive ‘rolled’ texture and is available in a range of decorative colours.
