Calcium on bottles can cause bottle scanners to reject clean bottles. The SCALE watcher ENiGMA Electronic Descaling System provides a solution to the problem by changing the calcium molecules in the water.

Although situated in a soft water area, with a water hardness of only 20 and 30 ppm, a bottling plant in Devon found that calcium in the water caused droplets to remain on the surface of the washed bottles. The sidewall scanner, sensing the droplets on the glass, treated them as a mark or shadow and rejected the bottles.

By fitting the SCALEwatcher ENiGMA System, the bottling plant has changed the structure of the water molecules, resulting in alterations to the surface tension of the water.

As the treated water droplets lie flat and no longer cast a shadow the problems of clean bottles being rejected has been overcome.
