Clever Combination

Retrofitting of renewable technology has just been made easier thanks to the launch of Altecnic’s simple to fit solar storage-to-boiler connection kit, designed to seamlessly integrate a solar storage unit with a pre-existing combination boiler.

The 263 connection kit, from the UK’s leading supplier of quality plumbing equipment, is designed to be easily installed onto the hot water pipe of an existing combination boiler. The kit links the boiler to the solar application drawing free hot water from a cylinder effectively transforming the boiler into an ultra energy efficient system.

The intelligent device is a patented thermostatic control. A thermostatic diverter valve receives hot water from the solar water storage unit and controls the flow rate to minimise the amount of time the boiler is in use. A second thermostatic control device then limits the boiler inlet temperature to prevent it being switched on and off too often. Finally, a third anti-scald adjustable thermostatic mixing valve, at the kit outlet, constantly controls the water temperature at the point of use.

Chris Ramster, trade sales director, commented: “Although ‘renewables’ is the industry’s current buzz word, we’ve found that very few plumbers really understand how they can capitalise on this emerging market. It’s estimated over 50,000 homes a year will need to be refurbished until 2020 for the government to hit its carbon reduction targets, and that’s a massive opportunity for anyone involved in our industry.

“We’re at the forefront of innovation and Altecnic’s new connection kit offers installers the peace of mind that they are using devices that are fully accredited, easy to install and maintain, to give them the confidence to branch out into the lucrative retrofit market.
