BURLINGTON JOINS BIG BRAND NAMES AT CENTREWEST SHOPPING MAL

Joining the many leading high street retail names and food chain outlets located in the Centrewest mall that forms part of the Scotland’s largest undercover shopping and leisure destination is Burlington – the UK’s leading natural stone producer.

250,000 weekly shoppers and visitors looking for some retail therapy within the two storey Centrewest mall located within East Kilbride Shopping Centre, see Burlington’s stone used as the flooring material within the food court area located on the mall’s first floor.

Specified by architects, Building Design Partnership of Glasgow, Burlington’s mid-green Elterwater honed natural stone flooring serves to define the food court area from the shop frontages and main upper mall space by contrasting with the use of terrazzo. Supplied as 300mm X 300mm X 12mm standard floor tiles, the Elterwater stone flooring also features within both the male and female public toilets located on the first floor.

Installed over a third of the upper mall floor space, Burlington’s stone flooring has been further defined using a combination of perimeter and horizontal and vertical bands of Burlington’s darker Bursting Stone olive green natural flooring.

“We are delighted that our natural stone has been used within a retail scheme of this magnitude,” states Burlington’s Joint Managing Director, Malcolm Hatch. “It is proving to be a very popular material within interior environments such as retail and shopping centres, largely due to it being both fashionable and functional. As well as being able to supply a diverse colour palette that is available in a choice of smooth and textured finishes. Burlington stone exhibits many proven technical properties. It is suitable for areas exposed to heavy pedestrianisation, is easy to clean and maintain and is hard wearing,” he added.

The completion of the Centrewest mall created a shopping and leisure complex within East Kilbride that features over one mile of malls that cover 1.2 million sq ft – the equivalent of nearly 23 football pitches. Built at a cost of £90million, Centrewest incorporates a number of high street retail giants such as Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, H&M and Topshop, as well as many other leading fashion names.
