Burlington announces new board appointments

Cumbria-based Burlington - producers of the ‘best of British’ natural stone products - has announced two new senior management appointments. It is a move that has been orchestrated to further elevate Burlington’s presence in the markets it serves both here in the UK and overseas, and forms part of the company’s exciting and ambitious corporate development strategy.

Responsible for the day-to-day operation, whilst overseeing the strategic direction of Burlington’s business interests, is former production director, Rob Irwin, who now assumes the position of managing director. Reporting to Rob is newly-appointed sales & marketing director, Nick Williams. Indeed it is Nick who will help deliver Burlington’s vision for the future.

Commenting on the strategic importance of the new appointments, Duncan Peake, Burlington’s chief executive and board member of parent company, the Holker Estates Group said: “We are extremely excited about the new appointments, as we have every confidence that both Rob and Nick will be instrumental in leading Burlington into a new and increasingly dynamic era. They have the knowledge, ability, experience and passion that is required to elevate Burlington’s business onto a new level, driving it out of the recession and into a bright and successful future.”

Having joined Burlington in 2001 as production manager, Rob was quickly promoted to production director in 2003, when he assumed overall responsibility for Burlington’s production department. In a career spanning some 33 years, Rob Irwin is not only well versed with all aspects of production planning, management and training, he is highly-experienced within the field of quality control, having both developed and implemented a number of effective and efficient quality systems. Not surprisingly, Rob is a member of the Chartered Quality Institute.

With 25 years’ sales and marketing experience within the building and construction sector, Nick is well placed to help position Burlington as a unique proposition within the natural stone products arena by highlighting a number of factors that differentiate the company within the marketplace.

As Nick states: “There are a number of key messages that we will be looking to proliferate to all of those interested in specifying both external and internal natural stone products. In addition to focusing on the fact that Burlington has access to one of world’s richest sources of stone, we intend to reaffirm that it is British! At the same time, we will focus on the characteristics of the stone, including its inherent natural beauty and the uniqueness of colours and finishes it is available in.

“We also intend to purvey how versatile the product is, whether used for roofing, flooring, cladding, landscaping, or as an interior finishing material within the kitchen and bathroom. And finally, emphasis will be applied to Burlington’s environmental and green credentials; such focus covering the sympathetic manner in which material is quarried and processed, both of which deliver a reduced carbon footprint when compared to most imported stones,” he added.

Holding the CIM Marketing Diploma and an Honours Degree in Economics, Nick started his career with Marley Roof Tile Co Ltd and Marley Building Materials, before moving to landscaped gardens and driveways design and construction UK market leader, Goddard Group/XD Ltd. An experienced senior executive with specialist expertise in sales and marketing, business development and general management, Nick joins Burlington from Natural Paving, where he held the position of sales and marketing director.
