BREEAM Awards 2010 – nora® projects

nora® rubber floorcoverings are proud to have participated in a number of projects which have recently received BREEAM Awards, recognising the outstanding design and construction of the highest scoring buildings certified under the BREEAM. The BREEAM is a leading environmental assessment method for buildings and sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design.

The winners included Salisbury Law Courts, Loreto Sixth Form College and the British Embassy in Germany, all of which contain nora® rubber floor coverings. The award recognises outstanding examples of excellent sustainable design and in order to qualify, the projects must have excelled in every environmental category within BREEAM.

Salisbury Law Courts benefited from the outstanding characteristics of the hard wearing norament® products. norament® 925 grano and norament® 928 al grano, an electrostatically dissipative product, were installed in the law courts last year; The long life cycle of the norament® product range make them ideal for such projects where the durability of the floor covering is an essential aspect in maximising resources and efficiency.

Loreto Sixth Form College in Manchester installed noraplan® ultragrip in the educational facility which has was highlighted for its ‘green’ strategy. The college was commissioned to provide a modern teaching facility which promotes sustainable design to the college and the wider local community. Materials were assessed and compared in order to ensure that environmental impacts were minimised. Ventilated spaces, high acoustic targets and a comfortable working environment for staff and students were primary features of the school. Subsequently noraplan® ultragrip was ideal for this environment, with a BREEAM rating of ‘A’ and an excellent safety feature of maximised slip resistance. This ensured that the school was fitted with an environmentally sensitive product, without compromising the safety and design features required of school environments.

norament® 925 grano was installed in the British Embassy in Germany, which won a BREEAM special award for ‘BREEAM in-use’. These special awards are awarded to buildings that deserve particular recognition as the first projects certified under new schemes.

BREEAM provides a seal of approval for buildings with low environmental impact and assurance that best environmental practice is taken into consideration. The goal of the BRE is to find innovative solutions that minimise the environmental impact of products and services with benchmarks that are higher than regulation. As a worldwide leading manufacturer of rubber floorcoverings, nora® takes great responsibility in providing a wide range of products which address environmental and sustainability issues as part of our commitment to a better future.
