Marshall-Tufflex’s newly launched antimicrobial trunking system has created a huge amount of interest, with a number of healthcare trusts up and down the country discussing its potential with the manufacturer.
Bio Trunking Solutions is a PVC-U cable management system impregnated with a silver-based antimicrobial agent that is proven to render harmless many of the most virulent bacteria, for example MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella. If someone carrying one of these bugs touches the treated PVC-U, bacteria transferred to the trunking begins to die, minimising the risk of cross contamination. On untreated products, the harmful bacteria will grow.
The bug-busting system is available on most of Marshall-Tufflex’s PVC-U cable containment profiles. However, when coupled with the manufacturer’s unique all-curved Odyssey trunking, it provides hospitals, care homes, surgeries etc with a tremendous opportunity to minimise the risk of cross-contamination, as Marshall-Tufflex product manager Chris Scott explained: “Not only are Odyssey Bio’s curves good looking, they do not allow clutter such as mugs and pictures to be placed on them. A clutter-free, curved trunking is far easier to clean and reduces the opportunity for bacteria to grow, particularly when treated with the antimicrobial agent.”
Odyssey Bio has been installed in operating theatres at the Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where it has impressed Paul Cookney Theatre Estates, Plymouth NHS Trust. He said: “It has such a low profile with the advantage of no edge. It is a superb product that has provided us with a cheaper and more effective method of managing cables. We are very pleased with it. We had expected something far heftier but people don’t notice it unless it’s pointed out to them.”
