Bilco celebrates 20 years’ success in the UK

This year marks the 20th anniversary of UK operations for roof hatch, smoke vent and access equipment supplier Bilco UK (

As part of the celebrations Dominic DeConcilliis, vice president of sales & marketing in the USA, visited the UK to attend a luncheon with all his British colleagues at The Grange in Thurston, Suffolk. There he presented the team with a plaque and a portrait of Bilco founder George Lyons.

The Bury St Edmunds-based company is a subsidiary of US manufacturing giant The Bilco Company, the worldwide specialist in access solutions.

Since 1926 The Bilco Company has built a reputation among architects, engineers and contractors for both dependable service and the unequalled design and workmanship of its products.

The company is ISO 9001 registered, meaning its products satisfy stringent quality requirements and that it has demonstrated consistent commitment to customer satisfaction.

In addition to its standard range of products Bilco today specialises in custom design and manufacture of speciality access solutions for virtually every application. All Bilco products are designed to provide many years of trouble-free service, many incorporating innovative features for which US and international patents have been issued.

That original spirit of invention has been key to the company's ongoing success. “The secret has been steady growth and constant attention to product development,” says James Fisher, general manager at Bilco UK. “Our response to the market has always been to reinvest in the business in terms of product development – to seek new products and new features that will help improve our offering to customers.”

Another important factor behind the expansion of the company has been its willingness to grow geographically. Having reached a dominant position in the US market, the company established its subsidiary in the United Kingdom in 1989 and has since used this as a base for expansion into the wider European market.

Despite its worldwide growth Bilco has continued to be very much a family-owned business. Twenty years on, the UK arm of Bilco continues the tradition of craftsmanship, inventiveness, attention to detail and customer focus which has helped its US parent company grow successfully and profitably for almost a century.
