Banking on SSQ Riverstone® architectural stone
SSQ Riverstone architectural stone was selected as the floor surface for the public areas of the latest branch of the Kreissparkasse Wiedenbrück bank, which recently opened its doors to the town of Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock in the district of Gütersloh in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
SSQ Riverstone architectural stone is a range of premium-quality, natural rock products that have been specifically cut and dressed for architectural use. Riverstone is a phyllite, a metamorphic rock similar to slate and shares its essential characteristics but surpasses its qualities: it is stronger than slate, more resilient and is particularly suited for flooring as its riven surface provides excellent slip resistance. Phyllite’s natural mineral content gives it an eye-catching appearance, its grey-green colour being enhanced by mica which gives it a subtle metallic sheen.
SSQ Riverstone architectural stone is available in either a range of off-the-shelf slabs, floor tiles, skirtings, stair treads, wall cladding, sills, mosaics and work tops or can be provided to meet a custom specification. Four surface finishes are available – Brushed Antique, Natural Split, Flamed and Honed – which highlight either the rock’s physical attributes or its aesthetic qualities.
The Kreissparkasse Wiedenbrück bank’s design team chose SSQ Riverstone architectural stone from a selection of stones presented to them and SSQ were consequently asked to supply over 500m2 of flooring in Brushed Antique finish. The new branch opened in March 2008, the bank being delighted with the result, specifing its use in the seven branches planned for opening over the next five years.
