In a bid to promote low emission vehicle technology and a more sustainable low carbon future, building services contractor Balfour Beatty Engineering Services
) is leading by example through a programme of sustainable solutions. As part of this ongoing green initiative, the company has installed an electric car charger with two dedicated parking bays for electric cars at its head office in Glasgow.
is committed to sustainability and has been working with Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services to extend the range of electric car options available to employees.
Leading by example, BBES
Legal Director Christopher Morgan has recently taken ownership of a Nissan Leaf electric car and commented: “The electric Nissan Leaf and charge post installation at our head office in Hillington, Glasgow reinforces our commitment to encourage employees to ‘change their behaviour’ in relation to sustainability and sustainable solutions.”
The Nissan Leaf (Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable and Family) runs to 100 miles per charge. A quick charge of 30mins gives an 80% charge, and power is put back into the battery when you brake.
Plant and Fleet Services has recently added further electric and hybrid cars to their range, including the Toyota Prius, and is promoting BBES
as their recommended supplier for installing electric car chargers.
“We should think about our carbon footprint in every activity we are involved in whether at work or at home,” added Christopher Morgan. “We hope that our customers, suppliers, office neighbours and employees are encouraged to think about electric vehicles as a result of our commitment.”
In 2012, the plan is to roll out the electric car charging facility to other BBES
offices and sites across the UK to ensure there is a framework of sites where cars can be charged and shared.
