Award winning performance from Alumasc at Bishopsgate
A prestigious new commercial development in the City of London has received Industry recognition thanks to its use of an advanced structural waterproofing system from roofing specialists Alumasc.
Architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP specified Alumasc’s Hydrotech MM6125 system for the landmark project at 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower in the City’s financial district, which has earned Alumasc this year’s Flat Roofing Alliance Award for the Best Newbuild Project Over 250m².
Standing at 165 metres, Broadgate Tower is now the district’s third tallest building and together with the adjoining 201 Bishopsgate, is the largest speculative office development ever undertaken in the City.
With over 8000 square metres installed, the Hydrotech system, which is manufactured using 20% post-consumer recycled material and supplied under Alumasc’s ISO14001:2004 Environmental Management Standard, greatly contributes to a robust environmental performance specification, helping the scheme achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
Hydrotech is a lightweight yet tough, self-healing monolithic waterproofing membrane with a unique formulation that guarantees lifetime performance. It was the first hot-melt waterproofing system to be introduced to the UK construction market and boasts a respected performance record spanning 45 years, for use on protected roofs, plaza decks, green roofs, water features or access roadways. In addition, Hydrotech is fully warranted, BBA approved and has European Technical Approval ETA-05/0152.
Installed at heights of up to 37 storeys on the development, by Alumasc approved contractors, Tilbury Contracts of Essex, the fully inverted Hydrotech system incorporates a green and biodiverse roof area. The Alumasc Biodiverse green roof utilises the available flat roof area and directly benefits its surroundings in terms of storm water attenuation and new wildlife habitat.
