Assa Abloy’s door solutions extends hospital stay
The quality, performance and durability of ASSA ABLOY’s door solutions is no better illustrated than at Nottingham University Hospitals’ NHS Trust’s Queen’s Medical Centre campus where around 15,000 locks or ironmongery sets installed in the original 1970s building have required little maintenance and remain fully operational after 30 years of continuous use. The same is equally true of the newer Ear, Nose & Throat unit on the site, where ASSA ABLOY’s integrated door locking and security systems have also provided successful security and access control for the past ten years.
In a bid to provide a full design solution and not just an ironmongery specification, ASSA ABLOY has supplied a variety of its products for use throughout the main hospital and other buildings. All products comply with DDA regulations and meet the needs of heavy traffic and usage.
In the ENT building, ASSA ABLOY’s Twin Combi master system – a high security patented cylinder for high-risk areas - provides a locking system that offers the ultimate in security. Offering exceptional master-keying capabilities, it also enables security to be tailored to the requirements of each door throughout the facility. Cleverly, the original hospital’s existing master key system integrates with this newer building.
For complete electronic security and management control, ASSA ABLOY's Solicard is also installed in the ENT building. As well as being able to control unlimited doors, this system combines the flexibility of access control with the convenience of being able to manage security over a standard computer network without compromising the confidentiality of the data that is communicated.
An extensive array of ASSA ABLOY door furniture and ironmongery also features throughout the hospital, including hinges, closers and lever furniture, together with ASSA Modular lock cases.
Commenting on behalf of ASSA ABLOY, Tom Jones, Specification Development Manager, said: “The Queen’s Medical Centre perfectly illustrates the whole life performance and reliability of ASSA ABLOY’s products over a considerable period of time. By delivering an integrated design solution with meticulous attention to detail, we are confident that these products will withstand a further 30 years.”
