Woodberry Down Regeneration Project

5 Jan 2015
News

This 25-year programme will transform the Woodberry Down estate in North-East London. The project is unique in its involvement of the local community: residents have played a pivotal role in the project’s design and delivery through the Woodberry Down Community Organisation (WDCO) working in partnership with Berkeley Homes, Genesis Housing Association and the London Borough of Hackney.

The regeneration will deliver over 5,500 new homes of which 41 per cent will be affordable. There will be three new public parks, along with community facilities as well as commercial and retail opportunities. A revised master-plan recognises the importance of green infrastructure in creating liveable, sustainable development and will narrow Seven Sisters Road to enable a more cohesive community, a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists with better crossings. The revision has led to a greener environment with a 30 per cent increase in public open space compared to the original plan, as well as more community facilities. The scheme opens the East and West Reservoir to the public, creating a landscape that improves liveability.
