Willowfield College Complete with Hard Landscaping Solution from Tobermore

25 May 2016
Case study

A beautiful combination of Tobermore’s traditional Tegula paving and contemporary Manhattan plank paving was specified by HLM Architects for the new Willowfield Humanities College in Walthamstow.

The college is designed to accommodate 900 pupils at secondary school level. HLM Architects have explained that the design brief for the new facility called for “clear identity, light and airy spaces that would be comfortable both psychologically and physically”.

In meeting this brief, the building was designed with a central atrium that forms the ‘heart’ of the school, connecting to the main entrance, multi-functional terracing and dining hall, as well as teaching and administration offices on the upper levels and two linear wings.

Bouygues UK managed the construction of the project and selected Cole Groundwork Contracts to carry out the ground works, which was completed in winter 2015 with stunning results.

A large expanse of Tobermore’s Tegula in the warm tones of Heather and the mellow tones of Cedar was installed on the grounds at the North London School. Tegula is a hugely popular product from Tobermore that offers an aged, antique look and is guaranteed to add elegance and character to any space.

Manhattan in striking Silver and Graphite was also been incorporated, adding a contemporary edge to the hard landscaping design.

Tobermore’s Manhattan is a plank paving product with a stunning granite aggregate surface layer that produces a modern look, similar to natural granite. The combination of the two product colours in mixed length sizes has been used to form a unique, stylish laying pattern.
