Stylish floor design captivates school pupils

Case study

An eye-catching flooring design made up from complementary colours in Polyflor’s 2000 PUR homogeneous vinyl collection is creating an attractive focal point for pupils at Audley Junior School in Blackburn, Lancashire.  As part of a recent interior refurbishment, a series of circular designs have been installed into the school’s main sports and assembly hall, creating an individual, fresh and modern look to encourage increased attention levels and promote learning.

Installed by Andy Bury and Nathan Rustidge from AFB Flooring Solutions Ltd in Blackburn, this project required extra diligence through the intricate cutting of the vinyl on-site to create the inlaid designs fitted into a complementing main field colour.  The school hall features a combination of three colours Glacier Blue 8450, Sapphire 8550 and Oak 8300, presenting an inventive interior space with the aim of creating a positive environment that can inspire the children during their regular sports classes and assemblies.

Susan Aldred, Head Teacher at Audley Junior School commented: “We are very pleased with the finished look and performance of the Polyflor flooring.  The circular design looks really stylish and has certainly been a talking point for children and staff alike. We’re a school that aims to help all children fulfil their potential and the flooring helps to contribute to the high standards we set ourselves and the creation of a comfortable and happy learning environment!”

Fran Bury, Director at AFB Flooring Solutions Ltd, adds: “We are proud to have been involved in this project and the finished installation looks worth the detailed effort that was put in on-site. We would particularly like to thank Polyflor’s Design Service for their invaluable help in allowing us to turn this design concept into reality.  From the brief given by the school, Polyflor produced some initial concepts at short notice, one of which was approved as the final design.  On top of this, they gave us all the dimensions we needed to enable us to cut the vinyl by hand, on site.  Without this help, it would have been a lot harder to do!”

Ideally suited to the demands of high traffic environments, Polyflor 2000 PUR offers a range of 20 multi-tone shades in a marbleised decoration which can be used interchangeably to create design-led areas, with high appeal in many education settings.  For ease of maintenance, the product features Polyflor’s renowned PUR maintenance enhancement which is cross-linked and UV cured to facilitate a low cost, lifetime polish-free maintenance regime. The product achieves an individually certified BRE Global environmental A+ rating (ENP 472), contains an average of 25% recycled material and is 100% recyclable via the Recofloor recycling scheme.

Polyflor 2000 PUR is manufactured in the UK at a production site which has been audited for BES 6001 compliance and achieves ‘very good’ certification.   This is BRE’s sustainability standard relating to the responsible sourcing of construction products and involves a detailed audit process.
