St Edwards C.of E Comprehensive School, Romford

Case study

With many buildings dating from the 1960’s, St Edwards C.of E Comprehensive School has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improve access for staff and pupils by installing numerous TORMAX automatic entrance systems throughout the campus.  A cost-effect maintenance contract ensures the automatic doors continue to comply with current regulations, with a trained TORMAX engineer visiting the site a minimum of twice a year.

“Apart from keeping the TORMAX automatic sliding doors working effectively on a day-to-day basis, a maintenance contract makes financial sense in the long term by helping to extend the lifespan of the units,” confirms Site Manager, Tony Collins.   “We have been pleased with the customer service offered by TORMAX and impressed with their attention to detail.”

The first bi-parting entrance was automated in 2010 and since then TORMAX has gone on to install a further six automatic door systems with the most recent being installed in 2013.

With over 60 years experience in designing, manufacturing and installing automatic entrance systems worldwide, TORMAX is a leading expert on modern door technology and has a comprehensive range of drives for all circumstances. The entrance to the Sixth Form at St Edward’s for example, is fitted with the IP65-rated TEP bi-parting operator.    Designed to exceed the requirements of the European Standard resistance to dust and water penetration, this automatic sliding door drive allows an entrance to be installed in almost any location.  Elsewhere around the premises TORMAX recommended installing an iMotion 2301 operator, three Windrive 2201 bi-parting drives and two single sliding door operators.

“Our Swiss-designed door operators are highly engineered to deliver continuous performance under exacting conditions”, explains MD Simon Roberts.  “The current iMotion range is one of the most technologically advanced systems on the market today, delivering an exceptional lifespan with minimum maintenance requirements.”

In addition to improving access, the automatic entrances have contributed to lowering the carbon footprint of the school.  With sensitive, easy-to-programme controls each entrance can be adapted to suit weather conditions and the weight of pedestrian traffic.  This minimises heat-loss from the buildings, helping maintain the internal ambient temperature whilst reducing fuel expenditure.
