South Cheshire College, Crewe

Case study
Stretch Ceilings have recently completed an installation in the new £74 million college campus at South Cheshire College, Crewe.

The main atrium and circulation space for the new South Cheshire College facility features classic Matt White Stretch Material mounted on our semi-concealed track system. Approximately 2,800 square metres were installed over a 10 week period encompassing major access issues due to the three staggered floor areas below and the weight limitation of the floor loadings.

The installation comprises of vertical panels into 8no. offset roof light openings and 47no. lightweight ceiling panels of approximately 45 square metres each set on the pitch with curved top and bottom edges. The effect is that of one continuous surface broken only by the double tracks needed to abut and trim around the steel roof supports.

The atrium space, restaurants and meeting areas are lit by an ingenious series of light projectors and large mirrors like discs accommodated at exacting positions on the Stretch Ceiling to ensure evenness of light distribution. The ceilings also accommodated numerous hanging lights over the higher mezzanine areas plus smoke detection points set into the sheet material and several WiFi points. Stretch installers saw this as a particular challenge with the panel installation process from telescopic machines being likened to a choreographed routine but at 18 metres in the air.

Stretch Ceilings are ideal for College and School environments as they provide an excellent acoustic solution whilst also maximising both natural and artificial light sources. Our product comes with an industry leading 12 year guarantee and is certified to the new Euroclass fire rating B s1 d0 in accordance with EN13501.1.
