Shear House

Case study

Shear House, a  modern single family house in Korea designed by stpmj Architects, seeks how a simple treatment in pitched roof typology improves environmental qualities.

The sheared volume is continuously pulled out towards South responding to sun orientation. It creates a deep eave in South and a terrace in North, blocking direct sunlight in summer and allowing natural lighting in winter. Openings at terrace in second level increase natural ventilation throughout the whole house. Dimensionally stable and natural Lunawood Thermowood exterior cladding controls heat and humidity throughout the year.
