REHAU Design Engineer awarded prestigious status

Neil Baker, a Senior Engineer at REHAU, has become one of the very first engineers in the UK to achieve prestigious Chartered Technological Product Designer (CTPD) status.

Demonstrating that the window and door industry can keep pace with the very best in the UK, Neil has joined an exclusive group which includes the Director of Design at Jaguar and the Global Head of Claims, Standards and Insights at Dyson.

Neil, who has worked at REHAU for 18 years, has been involved with the design of some of the company’s most iconic and innovative systems, such as the REHAU Heritage vertical slider and the RAUFERNO fire rated window. In order to qualify for CTPD status, he had to demonstrate his design competencies and skills and provide evidence of everything from analytical and creative thought processes to sustainable design practices.

Chartered Technological Product Designer status is a new initiative launched by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) following the granting of a licence from the Privy Council.   It gives professional recognition, support and registration to product designers, putting them on a par with Chartered Engineers.

Neil is understandably delighted with his achievement.  He said:  “It’s an honour to be one of the first recipients of this new CTPD status.  For me, it’s particularly pleasing to see PVC-U system design recognised alongside automotive and industrial design.”

Neil holds an MSc in Manufacturing Management and Technology and works within REHAU’s design and technical team reporting to REHAU’s Technical Manager Mike Hart.

Mike added:  “This is a fantastic achievement by Neil and well deserved.  The skills and capabilities of REHAU’s design team are fundamental to our success in the UK, and Neil has long been an integral part of that team.”
