Poignant Words Cut Deep in Stone Cut into the Soul

Poignant words cut deep in stone … what better focus for a garden or building?

Lettering is not something best served by machine. It requires the sensitivity of a human eye. For legibility and aesthetics, letters and words are rarely placed at precisely equal distances and the spacing may need to be adjusted by a tiny amount to look perfect.

Chilstone, whose garden ornaments are handmade by skilled craftsmen, have a large range suitable for any garden or patio. Their plaques, pedestals, urns, sundials or seats can all be used for a fitting epitaph, an amusing epigram, a house name or even to commemorate a special event; a birthday, anniversary or retirement.

Chilstone also produce a huge range of architectural stonework – columns, obelisks, porticos and pedestals, all of which could be used for an appropriate message or name.

With over 30 years in the business Chilstone’s stonemason said, “All that’s needed is a piece of stone, a chisel and a mallet to achieve an art technique that has been used for thousands of years. I have cut some interesting messages for Chilstone in the past, the latest a Latin inscription to celebrate a 60th birthday, in the stone surrounding a sundial.”

If you would like a copy of Chilstone’s Garden and/or Architectural catalogues, you can order them via www.chilstone.com or ring 01892 740866. Or visit their Show Gardens near Tunbridge Wells in Kent, which are open every day during the summer and on weekdays only from October to March.
