Olympic and Paralympic Village, London

Case study

Colt has designed and installed ventilation systems to provide fire protection to eight of the residential blocks and associated car parks at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Village.

Colt was involved from an early stage in the design process, and provided full designs of both complete systems, backed up by CFD modeling, as well as project management support.

The systems designed for the residential blocks will provide day-to-day ventilation as well as smoke extraction. Colt completed rigorous acoustic tests to ensure the necessary high degree of attenuation to the extract fans was provided. Its Colt Shaft and Extended Corridor Systems save precious space.

Colt’s CFD model for the car park showed that main extract fans would not be required, since smoke and fumes could be extracted naturally, thereby both reducing cost and keeping noise egress to a minimum.
