Geometric Flooring at Zaha Hadid-designed Penthouse One-11

15 Feb 2017
Case study

The CityLife district in Milan stands proudly as a residential, commercial and business development with residences designed by Zaha Hadid, and one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in Europe. In 2016 Listone Giordano, as part of Milan Contract District (MCD) had the pleasure of collaborating with other top Italian design companies to complete Penthouse One-11, a double-height luxurious penthouse over two stories.

Listone Giordano’s Slide flooring was specified as part of the penthouse’s interior design. Slide Tortora – a ‘turtledove’ oak colour – coats the floors and a wall like a second skin, an engineered oak-topped board with diamond, triangular and trapezoidal laying patterns that represent an eloquent twist on contemporary parquet flooring, echoing the residence’s unique and prestigious architectural and design features.

Slide unifies the surface of the living space, covering every area except the entrance areas and kitchen – yet no one piece is the same as the next. This design choice was born from the desire to transform classic parquet flooring and present an evolved flooring design. In addition, Listone Giordano’s oak boards do not simply lie horizontal but can be used vertically too, as an upright display of Slide gracefully covers one of the penthouse’s bedroom walls. Slide goes beyond a flooring option and becomes an elegant surface system.
