Geberit Mapress chosen for Plymouth fisheries Installation

Case study

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Sutton Harbour is the original port of Plymouth in Devon, still a busy fishing port and marina, as well as a spectacular waterfront destination with places to eat, drink, shop and visit.

Amongst the facilities at Sutton Harbour is Plymouth Fisheries, one of the most important fisheries hubs in the UK which plays a crucial role in the local economy. More than 6,000 tonnes of fish are sold from the site every year.

As part of an upgrade at Plymouth Fisheries, a new fuel storage system was installed by contractor OTS Group Ltd, a leader in delivering advanced fuel storage systems.

The system included 50,000L bunded tanks manufactured in the UK by OTS, automated dispensing pods for fuel, electric and water, and fuel control systems with two-inch fuel hoses on motorised wheels. The support system for the fuel storage system required ten metre deep piles and three metre high steel tank supports.

WHY GEBERIT?

Geberit Mapress 316 (1.4401) stainless steel pipework with FKM seal rings was selected for fuel and tank fill lines, with OTS Group already familiar with the system from other projects including a 24-hour HGV refuelling truck stop in Southampton.

Geberit’s solution combined speed of installation with operational benefits for the client. Mapress press fit technology requires no hot works, no soldering and no threading, which results in it being quicker and cheaper to install than traditional jointing methods.

It is also reliable. Joints are pressed in seconds using the Geberit pressing tool, over coloured pressing indicators on the ends of each press contour. These offer easy identification of both the material and any unpressed joints during the installation process.

DELIVERING THE SOLUTION

Steve Gain, managing director at OTS Group, said: “This was a significant project at Plymouth Fisheries, which is an important facility at Sutton Harbour. We knew Geberit Mapress would give us the speed and reliability we needed to do a good job on time and on budget, and had no hesitation in using Geberit pipes and fittings again.”

Geberit Mapress is available in range of materials including carbon steel, copper, stainless steel, and CuNiFe (a CuproNickel alloy).
