Fire & Ambulance Station, Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Case study

When the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort was planned, the project included a 7-bay fire / ambulance station. Unlike previous appliance bay designs, a garden style theme was used to enable the buildings to harmonise with the green surrounding and the nearby Theme Park.

Fourteen electric Superior Folding Doors were required, and Bolton Gate were consulted to assist with the design which included sixty-four Lexan vision panels and eight faux louvres to each door; a special Forest Green powder coating was applied to the metalwork.

In addition, the doors had to be designed to resist typhoon loadings of up to 3Kpa which required solenoid shootbolts to engage at the base to maintain the door leaves in the bottom track.

The doors were manufactured in Bolton and shipped to Hong Kong where they were installed by the local agent Deacon with whom Bolton Gate had worked since the 1960’s.
