Cycle storage and the Home Quality Mark; what do you need to know?

News

The Home Quality Mark is the newest member of the BREEAM family of quality and sustainability standards. Unlike other building regulations, the Home Quality Mark looks at the impact a new home will have on an occupant’s wellbeing, and up to 6 credits are available for the provision of adequate cycle storage.

In order to qualify for the credits, the following requirements must be met:

  • Cycle storage must be covered and fixed to a permanent structure (such as a building or hard standing)
  • Cyclists must be able to access the area without having to walk their bicycle through a building
  • A minimum of 750mm must be left between the stands, and a gap of at least 600mm must be left in front and behind the cycle stand to allow the bicycle to be manoeuvred into position

All of our Classic and Contemporary cycle stands are designed to comply with these regulations.

Don't forget lighting!

The Home Quality Mark guidelines state that cycle storage in communal locations must be lit outside of daylight hours. The lighting must provide enough illumination for cyclists to be able to locate, lock (or unlock) their bicycle and remove it easily.

The new VELOPA Illuminated Sheffield Cycle Stand is perfect for this task
