Charcon’s Abbey Moor creates a striking entrance at Burlington Plaza

Case study

Charcon Hard Landscaping, a division of Aggregate Industries, has successfully completed the supply of paving, steps, cladding and coping to Burlington Plaza.

The requirement was for a high-end stone that would complement the corporate style of the headquarters’ existing architecture, and deliver a visual impact as staff and visitors approach the building. The project’s landscape architect, Cameo & Partners, needed a hard landscaping manufacturer that could deliver a high specification product within the project’s tight timescales, and approached Charcon, who recommended its Abbey Moor natural Yorkstone.

Abbey Moor had already been specified in a range of traditional and contemporary applications due to its inherent characteristics: low water absorption; high density; and a high-end surface finish. Tried and tested, it was the perfect choice.

Charcon’s Abbey Moor derives from Yorkshire and features a unique colour blend of light blue/grey and rustic buff. It offers excellent durability and exceptional resistance to wear, making it suitable for both pedestrian and trafficked areas. When in situ, it is skid and slip resistant – even when wet – and retains these properties for the whole life of the product.

In a partnership approach with Cameo & Partners, Charcon worked with both the client and contractor SISK Ireland to meet the specification, providing technical production drawings, laying and delivery support. In total, 125m2 of paving plus 147 metres of step, cladding and coping units were supplied, cut to order and delivered in just one month.

Mark Barter, Sales Director for Charcon Hard Landscaping, said: “We were delighted to supply Abbey Moor for this prestigious project. The high quality finish is befitting to such a high profile corporate scheme, and showcases Yorkstone at its very best: a complex set of paving, steps, cladding and coping units all working together to create a beautiful and striking entrance to the building.”

Abbey Moor is available in diamond sawn and flamed finishes with linear modules also offered, while the setts are available in a diamond sawn, flamed or tumbled finish. A full range of matching accessories including tactile paving, kerbs, steps, benches and other bespoke items are available. Quarried and manufactured in the UK, Yorkstone reduces CO2 emissions in manufacture by 50% and is 100% recyclable, meaning less material is sent to landfill after use.
