Case study

Woolacombe, Devon

Site: Castle Rock, Woolacombe, Devon

Client: Morgan Sindall

Products: Stainless Steel Automatic Bollard and Stainless Steel Fixed Post

Four years ago, the experienced team at AUTOPA Limited installed an automatic access control system at Castle Rock, a set of luxurious flats in Woolacombe, Devon.

Situated on the coast, and alongside the popular South West Coastal Path, the flat's picturesque location attracts surfers, holiday makers and retired residents alike.  With such a prominent location unauthorised parking in the flat's car park was a big concern for residents. This was especially evident during the busy summer months when holiday makers used the car park to visit the nearby attractions. As a result, the project contractor Morgan Sindall contacted AUTOPA to help resolve the parking issue by installing an access control system.

Morgan Sindall were looking to install an automatic bollard in the driveway entrance to prevent non-residents gaining access to the car park.  As the roadway was built slightly wider than originally planned, an additional stainless steel bollard was installed to the left of the automatic bollard. This prevents drivers from circumventing the access control system and entering the car park without permission. As an additional safety feature, flashing lights were added to the top of the bollard to warn approaching drivers of its location.

Both bollards were manufactured from the highest quality marine grade stainless steel. This material was chosen for both its aesthetic and structural qualities. Firstly the stainless steel mirrored that used for the flat's balconies. Secondly, marine grade (316) stainless steel has a higher corrosion resistance to ensure against pitting caused by salt spray.

A few weeks ago, our Installation Manager Brian Sayers, revisited the site to see how the products were faring.  Four years on, the bollards are still in great condition and being used on a regular basis. Unauthorised parking is no longer an issue to the residents and holiday guests that stay at Castle Rock
