Architecture Today and MEDITE SMARTPLY join forces for an exclusive programme of events at the COP26 House

News

From 2nd – 4th November, Architecture Today and MEDITE SMARTPLY will be in residence at the COP26 House at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow for an exclusive schedule of events exploring the issues surrounding sustainability and climate action.

Designed by Peter Smith, of Roderick James Architects, and constructed by members of Beyond Zero Homes, the COP26 House demonstrates a simple, affordable way to build homes that help us meet our climate commitments. The construction is based on a 1.2m grid, allowing it to be easily panelised and prefabricated, or even self-built on site by two people, driving potential emissions from construction down even further.

In addition to reporting on COP26, Architecture Today and MEDITE SMARTPLY will be hosting a rolling programme of one-off debates and discussions. During the event, experts from across the industry will debate and explore ways to reshape the practices to address the challenges posed by climate change. The event opens on Tuesday 2nd November with a live, round table discussion where experts will be debating climate issues including sustainable practices and climate activism.

Chris King, Managing Director at MEDITE SMARTPLY commented: “We are delighted to be working with Architecture Today to host a series of events at the highly anticipated COP26 House. This building not only encapsulates MEDITE SMARTPLY’s commitment to building a more sustainable future, but it also showcases to the world that the products and systems for fighting the climate emergency are readily available.”

Expert speakers include Ingrid Berkeley, Senior Sustainability Consultant, Max Fordham Roly Ward, National Account Manager ‑ Frameworks, MEDITE SMARTPLY and Matt Kennedy, Arup Associate Director, Carbon and Climate at Arup.

Visitors to COP26 will also have the opportunity to view the COP26 House and hear from its architect, Peter Smith.

The COP26 House is located on the Broomielaw, to the East of the Kingston Bridge, a short walk from both the Scottish Event Centre (SEC) – the main COP26 conference venue – and Glasgow Central Station.

Join in on the debate, email COP26@architecturetoday.co.uk to book your place.
