Aggregate Industries nurtures future talent during its national apprenticeship week event

As part of National Apprenticeship Week (5 – 9 March), Aggregate Industries, a leading player in the construction and infrastructure industries, hosted an event at its head office in Bardon Hill, Leicestershire, for the next generation of future talent.

During the event a group of students from Rawlins Academy, based in Quorn, Leicestershire, were invited to meet current apprentices at Aggregate Industries, who spoke to them about the type of careers the construction sector has to offer.

Networking opportunities were available between students and members of the Aggregate Industries Future Talent Programmes, which enabled students to learn first-hand about the construction industry, Aggregate Industries and the placements available.

Emma Morris, Learning and Development Advisor at Aggregate Industries, comments: “During the event the group of students were given a questionnaire, which highlighted all were keen to pursue apprenticeships. As an industry, we need to ensure that we nurture and inspire students to follow a career in the sector, as it can offer a wide range of exciting opportunities.

“However, there is no doubt that there is still a big job to be done by the industry in raising awareness about the rewards of working in construction and breaking through the misconceptions that jobs are mainly for men and, in a lot of cases, low-paid and low skilled – which is simply untrue.”
