£4.6m Priority School Building Project Achieves Success in St. Helens

Case study

Mill Green School is a co-educational specialised development for 11-19 year olds, created to provide seamless special needs education in St Helens. Designed by Aedas Architects Ltd, the school has recently been successful through the Priority School Building Project (PSBP) as the first priority new build to be completed.

Willmott Dixon Ltd won the £4.6 million contract to build Mill Green School with Will Nixon Contractors acting as sub-contractor.

Tobermore’s Secura Grand in the blended tones of Bracken has been incorporated at the school as a retaining walling solution. As a mortar-free, dry building product, Secura Grand allows a fast and simple installation process, and possesses stunning aesthetic qualities with its unique, aged finish that creates style and character.

The school grounds also consist of a beautiful combination of Tobermore's Sienna block paving in the sparkling shades of Graphite, Sandstone and Silver. Sienna showcases a coarse textured surface, exposing sparkling granite aggregates which produce a sophisticated, distinctive appearance, similar to natural granite. The Sienna design used, particularly the interesting choice of colours, complements the colourful new school building and reflects the bright future Mill Green School is striving for. Specialised learning environments are crucial in enhancing education standards in the UK and this project is a shining example.
