ARNOLD LAVER WIN TOP YORKSHIRE BUSINESS AWARD

Leading international timber company Arnold Laver Group has been named Yorkshire Business Enterprise of the Year at a prestigious regional event.

Arnold Laver clinched the unique accolade, sponsored by AON, at the 2008 Yorkshire Awards, in recognition of its development from a small Yorkshire firm to a major global organisation.

One of Sheffield’s best-known businesses, the Arnold Laver Group was established in 1920 when Arnold Laver returned from the war in Germany and set up a timber merchant, with his first site in the Heeley area of the city.

The third generation of the family, chairman David Laver and managing director Andrew Laver, are leading the expansion of the business dynasty, in particular the Timber World division with a turnover of £110m.

The organisation has grown to become one of the largest and most respected timber merchants serving the UK construction industry and DIY sector, with 13 branches across the country, including sites in Bradford, Sheffield, Hull and Leeds.

Also, Arnold Laver works with a number of suppliers and customers from around the world, including America, Canada and Germany, providing a number of innovative products.

Andrew Laver collected the award at the glittering ceremony in Leeds. He said: “We are delighted to receive this award especially as it has come from the people of Yorkshire, who have been extremely supportive in the work of Arnold Laver during the last 80 years.

“We have a great family business which is built on the efforts of our staff and their commitment to excellence. Through the hard work of our employees, the company has been able to expand on a huge scale and we are aiming to build on the successes already gained in our timber merchanting, leisure and property divisions.”

The Yorkshire Awards recognise people and organisations who have had an impact on Yorkshire and its people in some way, demonstrating their affection for and commitment to the county.

All of the Yorkshire greats from the field of show business, sport, the arts and business were honoured at the awards.
