ARDEX Completes a Text Book Finish for Portsmouth Library

ARDEX UK was delighted to team up with flooring contractors D.Kelleher Flooring Limited of Havant, to provide the ideal flooring refurbishment solution for Portsmouth Library.

Following extensive flood damage in August 2010, Portsmouth’s central library has now re-opened to the public after undergoing a complete refurbishment.

D. Kelleher Flooring, who are regular applicators of ARDEX flooring systems, commenced the installation by applying 4000m2 of ARDITEX RS PLUS throughout the library. Due to its superb track record throughout many installations, ARDITEX RS PLUS is highly regarded by specifiers, contractors and end users as a cost effective, low odour, self-smoothing latex levelling compound with excellent properties of adhesion and water resistance. Incorporating rapid setting properties, ARDITEX RS PLUS is ready to receive final floorcoverings in just 6 hours, and is suitable for use on sub-floors such as concrete, cement and sand screeds, terrazzo and quarry tiles etc.

Commenting on the project, Tony Kelleher of D.Kelleher Flooring said, “It was essential that we utilised proven flooring products that would meet the performance and time deadlines of this refurbishment. ARDITEX RS is an outstanding product, which delivers exceptional results, resulting in a flat, durable floor surface”.

Despite being born of unfortunate circumstances, the refurbishment has allowed for an exciting redesign of the library. The famous Arthur Conan Doyle Archive Collection is now installed on the second floor, with the first floor developed as an information and reference area with a special area devoted to foreign language collections.  Public access computers are now on the lower ground floor, with reading and recreation being the themes of the ground floor, providing separate children’s and teen collections in addition to adult novels, film and music.
