Aqualux making moves in Eastern Europe

Aqualux, the UK’s leading manufacturer of shower enclosures and bath screens, is breaking into the Eastern European market, with the help of its new export sales coordinator Zhanna Bennett.

With considerable experience in the Ukraine as chief buyer and brand manager for Nike and a project manager for Intersport, Zhanna has been working in London for two years as a project manager, focusing on Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan for TMA Worldwide. She joins Aqualux as the brand moves into the growing Ukrainian market for the first time.

Working closely with leading Ukrainian bathroom retailer Agromat, Zhanna will be co-ordinating and translating the cross-cultural strategies. Agromat were one of the first companies set up in Ukraine to import ceramic and bathroom products 15 years ago and soon became the number one destination for Ukrainian consumers wanting to modernise or fit their bathrooms to a high spec.

Zhanna commented: "Traditionally, the Eastern European market has been dominated by small shops but companies like Agromat focus on style and choice, which is how they have become the market leaders, with an excellent reputation. It’s the perfect fit for Aqualux, and I’m delighted that Agromat have chosen to deal directly with us."

Ukraine is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe, bucking the downward trends elsewhere. In the last 10 years the market has enjoyed a boom, particularly in the property, construction and the DIY sectors, while in Russia, the DIY retail business is worth more than £10 billion and it’s still growing rapidly.

"In Ukraine they already have a vast choice of tiling, granite and ceramics to choose from and it was only a matter of time before they looked for bespoke shower solutions to fit their individual designer bathrooms, " added Zhanna.

Managing director James Cadman said: "Zhanna’s appointment marks a huge step forward for Aqualux, as we move into new markets and build on our recent success. As many businesses downsize to prepare for the pressures of a UK recession, I’m confident the east European market is the right place to be. By 2010, the market is expected to grow substantially and I want to make sure that Aqualux makes its mark during the next 12 months. By working with Agromat, we’ll be able to introduce all of our products and ranges to these new customers who are craving modern stylish designs."
