Alumasc Tops the Leader Board at Royal Birkdale

Market leading facade specialists, Alumasc, have supplied their Swistherm Exterior Wall Insulation (EWI) system and white render finish for an extension to The Royal Birkdale clubhouse.

Consistently rated as the number one golf course in England, The Royal Birkdale has played host to the country’s top tournament, The Open, on no less than nine occasions. In 2008, millions of TV viewers worldwide and thousands of spectators in the gallery were able to enjoy the familiar curves and clock tower of the famous clubhouse, set in the seaside sand dunes near Southport.

This prestigious building is constantly in the public eye and when the clubhouse extension was built, specification of high quality materials was paramount. The Royal Birkdale Golf Club is one of many high-profile projects in the UK and abroad to have benefited from the superior qualities of Alumasc’s BBA approved render solutions. The trademark curves of the original building are partly replicated in the new extension, but these were easily accommodated as a matter of course by the flexible Swistherm system.

M.R. Swistherm is a lightweight thin coat render system which provides an attractive and durable exterior envelope, finished with a choice of silicone or mineral-based top coat. The system utilises insulated slabs, fixed directly to the substrate and finished with the appropriate render. Thermally efficient, wind and waterproof, the finished installation eliminates internal condensation and reduces energy consumption. The panels are available in a variety of materials, including polystyrene, mineral wool or highly sustainable natural cork for environmentally sensitive applications.

Once in place the insulation panels receive a glass fibre mesh reinforced basecoat followed by the chosen render. The highly flexible system offers a range of decorative finishes and colours: M.R. ST Mineral Silicone is a traditional, natural material stain resistant, water repellent and material and M.R. ST Mineral Silicone provides a lightweight natural alternative. Both are available in rolled or dragged textures and a choice of grain sizes, with the outstanding Alumasc colour system providing a range of over 400 colours and toning shades for specifiers to choose from. The Swistherm range incorporates all relevant fixings, trims, beads and accessories, and is equally suited to new build and refurbishment applications.
