All aboard! Wienerberger hosts architectural bus tour in Manchester

Wienerberger, the leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations, hosted an architectural bus tour in Manchester last week, which saw 22 architects climb aboard a vintage double decker bus and visit the city’s key architectural landmarks.

Held in conjunction with its sponsorship of the 2013 MSA Design Awards, architectural commentator and Manchester expert Phil Griffin hosted the tour, which incorporated many of the city’s heritage and modern landmarks. From the cutting-edge design of No. 1 Angel Square and MediaCity, to the industrial splendour of the Ancoats mills, the bus also visited two of the most famous football stadiums in the world - in Old Trafford and Etihad - and the Imperial War Museum.

Annette Forster, Director of Marketing at Wienerberger, commented:
“The bus tour really allowed us to appreciate the quality of the architecture that exists right on our doorstep. Phil did a great job as host and hopefully all of those on board came away feeling inspired. Like architects, we believe that great design is absolutely vital to all construction products, so it was fantastic to be able to hold an event that celebrates what Manchester has to offer in that area.”

She continued:
“As sponsors of the MSA Design Awards 2013, we have shown that we are committed to promoting and highlighting architectural best practice, and this tour can be seen as an extension of that aim.”

Wienerberger was the sole sponsor of this year’s MSA Design Awards and awarded its Wienerberger Design Award to Chetham’s School of Music for what it described as “a beautiful example of traditional brickwork on a modern and creative building.”
