A close shave – Wienerberger raises money for The Christie

Following a bake sale, raffle and even a spot of head shaving, Wienerberger, the UK’s leading supplier of wall, roof and landscaping innovations has presented The Christie with a cheque for £3,457.24.

The focal point of the fund raising hinged around the shaving of Steph Harris’s head.

Steph, Customer Service Coordinator – Key Accounts, at Wienerberger was encouraged to accept the challenge following the recent experience of Jodie Cheetham, a colleague whose mother sadly lost her battle with cancer whilst receiving treatment at the hospital.

In addition, managers donned aprons to serve tea and coffee whilst other members of the team supported the occasion by decorating one of the meeting rooms with banners and balloons and brought in cakes for all to enjoy.

The Christie charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust through its fundraising activities, and delivers projects, equipment and improvements that are over and above what the NHS funds.

Jodie commented: "I’m delighted by the amount of money we’ve raised for the Christie! The treatment and care mum received was fantastic and I’m so happy that we’ve been able to raise such a large amount of money."

I know a lot of hard work and dedication goes into organising fundraising activities like these so a huge thank you to everyone involved.  I’m sure Jodie’s mum would be extremely proud. Money raised from events like these, allows us to continue to invest in the best treatment, care and research for our patients."
