ReMaterialization of Type

In designer Taekyeom Lee’s project, 'Rematerialization of Type,' Taekyeom converts typography into a tangible and tactile experience.

The Assistant Professor of Graphic design at the Appalachian State University in North Carolina, pushes the boundaries of three-dimensional printing techniques to 3D print type with materials as unlikely as ceramic clay, plastics and precious metal. After modelling design forms digitally, Taekyeom uses a self-generated desktop 3D printer, and clay extruder to make physical typographic forms.
