Northeast China has contributed major industrial influences since the late 19th century. With China’s economy heading towards a knowledge oriented and privatised economy, the government has initiated the ‘Revitalise the Northeast Campaign’ which intends to diversify the industrial sectors. Wei Gu, Assistant Dean of Jiangho Architecture School, Northeast University - is working with Shenyang Planning Bureau to carry out an initial study on the regeneration of Shenyang Tiexi Industrial District. She is currently working on a number of sites and is researching ways of finding the right uses for each site and how to set up the right processes to lead the regeneration.

This China Design Centre exhibition will showcase fundemental regeneration projects China and UK. The exhibition will be accompanied by a discussion forum which looks at successful industrial heritage re-use and regeneration projects.
